چکیده

where R = D/2 is the radius of the cap, ρ and ν are the density and kinematic viscosity of the liquid, σ is surface tension, r(θ) = R(1 + sθ) and s = r ′′(0)/D is the deviation of the free surface from perfect sphericity r(θ) = R near the stagnation point θ = 0. The bubble nose is more pointed when s < 0 and blunted when s > 0. A more pointed bubble increases the rise velocity; the blunter bubble rises slower. The Davies & Taylor (1950) result arises when s and ν vanish; if s alone is zero,

Rise velocity of a swarm of large gas bubbles in liquids

This paper develops a procedure for estimation of the rise velocity of a swarm of large gas bubbles in a bubble column operating in the churn-turbulent flow regime. The large bubble swarm velocity is estimated by introducing two correction factors into the classical Davies—Taylor (1950) relation for rise of a single spherical cap bubble in a liquid » b "0.71Jgd b (SF) (AF) . The scale correctio...

Ellipsoidal model of the rise of a Taylor bubble in a round tube

The rise velocity of long gas bubbles (Taylor bubbles) in round tubes is modeled by an ovary ellipsoidal cap bubble rising in an irrotational flow of a viscous liquid. The analysis leads to an expression for the rise velocity which depends on the aspect ratio of the model ellipsoid and the Reynolds and Eötvös numbers. The aspect ratio of the best ellipsoid is selected to give the same rise velo...

The effect of soluble surfactant on the transient motion of a buoyancy-driven bubble

The effect of soluble surfactants on the unsteady motion and deformation of a bubble rising in an otherwise quiescent liquid contained in an axisymmetric tube is computationally studied by using a finite-difference/front-tracking method. The unsteady incompressible flow equations are solved fully coupled with the evolution equations of bulk and interfacial surfactant concentrations. The surface...

CFD-DEM Investigation on van der Waals Force in Gas-Solid Bubbling Fluidized Beds

Effect of interparticle force on the hydrodynamics of gas-solid fluidized beds was investigated using the combined method of computational fluid dynamics and discrete element method (CFD-DEM). The cohesive force between particles was considered to follow the van der Waals equation form. The model was validated by experimental results from literature in terms of bed voidage distribution and Eule...

Numerical study of wall effects on buoyant gas-bubble rise in a liquid-filled finite cylinder.

The wall effects on the axisymmetric rise and deformation of an initially spherical gas bubble released from rest in a liquid-filled, finite circular cylinder are numerically investigated. The bulk and gas phases are considered incompressible and immiscible. The bubble motion and deformation are characterized by the Morton number (Mo), Eötvös number (Eo), Reynolds number (Re), Weber number (We)...
